New Polyurethane topcoat reduces SARS-COV-2 virus

A specialist coating supplier Surface Finishing UK has developed a Biomaster-powered clear antimicrobial topcoat designed to reduce the load of harmful microbes on surfaces, including SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

SURFACE13 is a Polyurethane coating which can be applied by spray application using traditional industrial air or non-air fed systems, portable handheld airless sprayers and aerosol. It can also be applied using hand application including paint roller and brush dependent on the requirements.

Tied into a regular cleaning process the antimicrobial properties enhance the hygiene level on surfaces.

Biomaster is known to inhibit the growth of a wide range of microorganisms, including MRSA, E.coli and Legionella. In recent testing, SURFACE 13™ also saw a reduction in SARS-COV-2 on their treated surfaces. When tested to ISO 21702:2019, the viral load on the surface was reduced to 78.62% after 6 hours and 94.25% after 24 hours when compared to a control surface.

The additive is suspended within the coating and is non-leaching and remains active for the lifetime of the coating. When Biomaster is added to SURFACE13, this then produces an ISO accredited multi-purpose antimicrobial hygiene paint system.

SURFACE13 also contains an invisible taggant which can be detected in the cured coat with the use of a laser. This tracer element proves that the antimicrobial agent is also present.
