Feedsafe with Biomaster makes gardens safer for wildlife

Gardman, the UK’s No.1 brand of wild bird care products, is revolutionising garden hygiene by incorporating Biomaster antimicrobial technology into their market leading Feedsafe™ wild bird feeder product range.

Standard bird feeders can be unhygienic and potentially life threatening for birds, as they can be breeding grounds for harmful bacteria.

Salmonella, Trichomonosis, Aspergillosis and Escherichia coli have all been linked to poor hygiene at bird feeders. Salmonella also has the potential to be transmitted to other wildlife including domestic dogs and cats and even humans, as infected bird droppings can contaminate food or water.

Recognising the need to improve the cleanliness and hygiene of bird feeders in order to reduce mortality rates in the garden bird population, Gardman incorporated Biomaster into their product to inhibit the growth of the harmful microbes.

While it is still essential to regularly clean bird feeders, many people do not. The addition of Biomaster antibacterial technology provides the ‘clean between clean’ that can help to reduce the risk of transmission. Biomaster is effective against most strains of common bacteria, is completely safe and works 24/7 for the lifetime of the product.

For the last 25 years Gardman has worked with The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), a UK charity that focuses on understanding birds and, in particular, how and why bird populations are changing. The BTO offers expertise to help ensure Gardman products are of the highest standard for the benefit of the wild garden birds.

Gardman Brand Manager Kirk Rothwell says: “Here at Gardman, we feel that it’s important to help protect our UK garden bird population. Our wide range of food and feeding products help to attract wild birds into our gardens and we want them to keep coming back! That’s why we feel the need to incorporate Biomaster antimicrobial technology into our range of durable Black Steel Feeders and our Heavy Duty Squirrel Proof Feeders.

“We obviously recommend people clean their bird feeders regularly to help reduce the risks from harmful bacteria but it’s great that Biomaster can add that additional product protection that it safe for wild birds and us.”
